Cosmic Dancer (A study)

Tomiyo Sasaki

1987, 15:00 minutes, colour

Cosmic Dancer is a video piece for a multi-monitor installation work. The Indian God, Shiva (destroyer and builder of worlds), is portrayed here as the Cosmic Dancer, in some of his many poses. It tries to capture the gentle and the frenetic nature of their Lord Shiva, through splintering and accentuations of movements performed by Mohan Madan, an Indian Mathematician/Dancer, in various country settings in India.
