You Belong To Me

b.h. Yael

1986, 06:00 minutes, colour, English

This tape examines and deconstructs gestures of possession that are part of sexual relationships, whose messages are continually reiterated in pop culture. In the first half of the tape, the images and music evoke the claustrophobia and objectifying aspect of being possessed. The other side of belonging is that we all desire to belong, this the second half incorporates this, however with an intentionally ambivalent tone.
