Nelson is a Boy

Edward Lam

1985, 14:00 minutes, colour, English

TAPECODE 321.00

"Nelson Is A Boy is the videotape version of my performance of 1984. The videotape is only a small section from the performance, but a passage that I feel encapsulates my intentions most clearly. The subjects of beauty and pleasure are directly addressed to the viewer by a Black actor. The actor is employed to draw attention to his "blackness," his own sense of identity and race and its relationship to the viewer and the author of these statements; ie., myself." -E.L.
