Spin Off

Kathy Tanney

1987, 13:00 minutes, colour, English

Mary Richards and J.R. Ewing are cast in a private series of illuminations. They appear as projections of a woman's imagination, more familiar to her than her own life. The tape employs conventions of mainstream narrative film and television to create a site where TV fiction can approach the subject of private life. The storyteller/voyeur is reduced to a pair of eyes whose pleasure in looking has become abnormal, compulsive, and degenerate. The "love" story is a skewed tale of visual pleasure and blind devotion.
