Beyond the Curve of the Earth

Jody Lafond

1995, 06:00 minutes, colour, English

Bad Poetry, real bad poetry. Picture Faye Resnick reading her poetry to an audience of the Bel Air Ex-wives Club. The words in this ironic piece conjure up images of lofty romanticism while its visual track shows the viewer a literal "slice" of everyday life at its most banal. "Beyond the Curve of the Earth speaks to the uneasy relationship between high and low cultures, between good and bad taste, ultimately implicating its own audience in the perpetuation of class divisions and their stylistic counterparts.
