During a trip to Leblon, on the coast of Brazil, Lynn Snelling befriends Idalina Cunha, with whom she continues to correspond on her return to Canada. Lynn, years later, still finds inspiration in the visual poetry of the place, now coloured by her own imagination and memories and renewed by the lyric descriptions in Idalina's letters. With the brush strokes of an impressionist painter, Snelling distills from her improvisations a choreography that evokes the gestures and moods recollected from the place. She performs a movement canvas, illustrating her figurative and literal personal journey. The video adaptation selects and accentuates three symbolic moments of the choreography. Taken from a sculptural and three-dimensional perspective, the images entice the spectator into an intimate and virtual experience of the piece.
