Gift of the Grandfathers explores the roots of Indian rodeos, established in the 40s partly in reaction to the discrimination experienced by Aboriginal horsemen at mainstream events. Today many reserves host their own annual rodeos. They are a vibrant part of First Nations culture throughout the West, providing a strong sense of history and pride...as well as heaping helpings of plain, old fashioned good times.
Gift of the Grandfathers charts the progress of Sandra Crowchild and Richard Bish during the summer of 1996 as they make their way to the all-important Indian National Finals Rodeo (INFR) in Saskatoon, held in Canada for the first time in 20 years.
