Miss Chinatown

Paul Wong

1997, 04:30 minutes, English, Cantonese

Juxtaposed against the background of the Miss Chinese-Vancouver pageant are the views of diverse New World subjects: drag queen, drug addict, divorcees, young man and mixed race woman. The subjects appear multi-layered in a segment that features the beauty queen contestants wearing traditional cheong-sams.

They are professionally choreographed moving to the sound of cantopop, lyp synced by two handsome entertainers. Paul Wong was a pageant judge for this live television event. This popular broadcast was interactive, thousands of home viewers phoned in votes. The regional winner went on to Hong Kong to compete in Miss Chinese-World.
