The World's Women On-Line! is an international, electronic art networking project which involves the Internet as a vehicle for transmitting images in all media created by women artists. Attention is focused on the challenge of bringing the global resource of women's experience and culture into the rapidly developing field of information technology. More than 800 women from all continents joined the exhibition. The project introduces women to the Internet and its possibilities for the artist. According to the World Wide Web access statistics, over 2,000,000 viewers have seen this site.
Multi-media artist, Muriel Magenta also designed the project to be exhibited as a video wall installation in museums and galleries. When featured as a video wall installation, a 3-D computer animation produced on a Silicon Graphics System by Magenta forms a backdrop on which the Internet images are screened for public viewing. The animation loop includes an original soundtrack with the voices of more that 20 women sending Internet messages in 20 different languages.
