Intense and frightening, this piece began as an infatuation with pre-millennium tension illustrated in popular culture. Very minimalist is colour, pace and beat, it tells the story of a dream. A woman confronts an unconscious future while her sleep is monitored. She contends with menacing clones and unraveled memories of what the future was supposed to be like. Inspired by Chris Marker's "La Jettee", the Present is shown in still photographs, the Future however is told in motion picture. The editing is simple and percussive, giving the character animation styled movement. Finally, instead of relying on post-apocalyptic tech noir for its aesthetic, the way American futuristic action movies do, "Making My Bones" engages with issues of survival and the body.
