Yoji, What's Wrong With You?

Mako Idemitsu

1987, 17:52 minutes, colour, English subtitles

A mother hysterically opposes her son's plan for marriage because he has been the head of her family. He gives up the plan, stays with his mother and decides to enjoy a materialistic life exploiting her fortune.

An inset in each scene depicts the mother's past; she was a girl who staked her fortune on marriage, yet her marriage turned out to be a disappointment. She began to see her future in her son.

The inset moves from the present to the past while the surrounding scene changes from the present to the future, the entire scene is however constantly changed.
