Fire on the Water

Aubrey L. Glazer

1994, 28:50 minutes, colour, English

TAPECODE 292.01

A father-son fly fishing trip set within the expansive beauty of the Forks of the Credit River system's Grand River system grapples with divergent notions of faith, fatherly love and sacrifice to an ideal. The film reconstructs the narrative of "The Binding of Issac/The Akedah" in four repeated sections. In each section, the narrator tells the tale, and with each repetition the story's perspective grows, subtly transforming. In conjunction with the tonal quality of each of the four vignettes, movement occurs from above the land cinematography to underwater cinematography, further enhancing the simply engaging lyricism of Fire on the Water.

Broadcast on CBC's "Canadian Reflections".
