A Modest Exercise in Memory and Supposition

Christopher Hills-Wright

1999, 04:00 minutes, B&W, English

During N.A.T.O.’s bombardment of Serbia during the Kosovo conflict in the spring of 1999, the media reacted as might have been expected: it produced two sides, labelling one as being good and the other as being bad, or even crazy. As it is far easier to wage war against civilians when those civilians are bad, crazy people, this distinction was useful if not universally accurate.

A Modest Exercise is a reminder that a schoolgirl here is very much the same as a schoolgirl over there, across an invisible line.
