love goes on and on

Marc Piccinato

1999, 04:00 minutes, colour, English

Love Goes On and On was originally conceived as a performance, which would playfully represent the violence of boyhood fantasy as an attempt to disassociate from childhood feelings of vulnerability and emotional dependence. The video takes aesthetic delight in the mock massacre and gutting of stuffed animal toys - the perverse actions of a hand puppet wielded by a militant, boyish figure. Seemingly contradicting the graphic excesses of these make-believe violations, the flippant tone of the video and the Disney love-ballad soundtrack creates an uneasy humour while challenging our emotional attachment to the inanimate toys.
