The key to the continuation of Indigenous languages is usage between the generations to which the language belongs. Cree filmmaker Dennis Jackson’s first long-form, stop-motion animation piece, Christmas at Wapos Bay, combines an intricate formula of modern usage with a traditional language that lures in the young audience. When three grandchildren set out to learn the old ways of trapping from their mushom (grandfather), they are taken on a journey that puts their family Christmas in jeopardy.
