“Forced” is a fictional army recruitment video inspired by music videos and the extraneous efforts the military exerts to allure young recruits. This one and a half minute video is an excerpt from the 24 minute video “Transfer Station” completed in 2007. “Transfer Station” is a narrative formed through a dizzying journey of vignettes authored by a fictional communications conglomerate, Panoptiscope. Illustrating corporate schemes to garner social submission through distraction and the banal, there is a forever-ness to “Transfer Station” that is nightmarish in spite of its absurdity and cartoon nature. “Forced” was covertly placed into the public sphere via television and the internet, to pose as a legitimate advertisement, subverted through excessive sexual gesturing with weaponry and enthusiastic recruits.
