Sleep is an experimental video short that follows the journey of a young woman through a series of moments between waking and sleep. As a viewer, you are aware that a journey is taking place but you are not sure if it is imagined or real – the boundaries between reality and dream are indistinct. The video is heavily textured and the images are often obscured in layers of abstraction. This video is an attempt to analyze structures of abstracted and image based narrative. The journey is used metaphorically as is scenes of anticipation and waiting to form a loose structure that resembles conventional narrative but does not adhere to the principles of linear progression – much as a dream’s continuity may shift in and out of coherence. In the end, the viewer is left with a puzzle that may or may not be fulfilling but instead lead on an inconclusive journey that is emotively charged.
