“in this manner, I am” is an animated short film adapted by the poet from a poem by the same name. A young Navajo woman and a non-native meet at an unidentified street corner and engage in conversation surrounding the phrase, “Doo Dine yinishliida,” which translates to “I am not a Dine.” When translated literally, Dine, like most other Indigenous terms of self-identification, can mean person or human.
