ESPN called it “the most riveting episode in the sport’s history.”
The Tie-break is an ongoing collaborative project involving the reenactment of the legendary 1980 Wimbledon Gentlemen’s Singles Finals between Björn Borg and John McEnroe as performed by the artists Tibi Tibi Neuspiel and Geoffrey Pugen. The first critically acclaimed iteration of this project took place at Nuit Blanche Toronto, 2011, during which the artists recreated the original fourth set tie-break from the match over 12 consecutive hourly performances on a specially installed court in the heart of the city’s financial district. The second iteration of The Tie-break at Neubacher Shor Contemporary saw the project evolved into series of works responding to the particular site of a gallery installation. Works included painting, sculpture, photography, and video.
