The autobiographical story of one man's journey 'over the border', 'How To Immigrate To Canada' is also the universal story of what it means to go from one place to another. Set at a time when Canada had just legalized same-sex marriage, the film explores what it's like for one American to apply for, obtain and accept immigration to 'The Great North'. But delving deeper, we find that even in the 'land of the freer' there are still a lot of hurdles that gay people have to jump on the path to equality. And, regardless of sexuality or national identity, we are all immigrating, whether we like it or not. This is the story of our immigrations over the border, whichever border that may be.
