As the title suggests, Solace is about finding comfort in times of distress. The character is wrapped in a cocoon of black fabric and her body is still and in a meditative state. The character finds a shield and warmth under this black fabric as she sits in this cold snowy landscape. The landscape is a metaphor for her hostile environment. The tableau vivant technique and the exaggeration of the wrapped fabric suggests that this scene is staged and theatrical. This video tricks the eye; at first glance, the viewer thinks they are looking at a photograph but upon closer inspection, one can see the movement in the water. Much like the character’s state, this effect invites the viewer to look a little closer and similarly undergo a process of self-reflection and transformation.
