Is It Bad To Be A Witch
2015, 04:59 minutes, black and white, English
The performer casts a kind of performative spell through the repetition of the single question, “Is it bad to be a witch?” Having been raised in an Evangelical Christian home, the artist wrestles with questions of feminism, the body, sexuality, magic, invocation, language, and power that the topic of “witchcraft” raises. There are unexpected visual references to Annie Sprinkle’s Bosom Ballet (1991).
