This video is an iteration of a 2009 participatory project, Want, consisting also of 3 performances, an audio installation, and six 8” x 11” posters. The public was invited to enter a silk tent and record a voice message of one sentence starting with, “I want.....”. The messages were collected over three events in varying locations in downtown St. Catharines and at a fourth were played back over loudspeakers. This video was projected outdoors on a brick wall. In this work, I am creating a picture of community defined by our desires. What is it we want?
Except under certain circumstances, this work is available only as a site-specific commission in your community and a looped projection in the public realm is preferred.
