“I came back to Japan in 1969, after having been in the States for five years... and when I got back home, I mean the atmosphere in this country – as far as independence and equality of women were concerned – was very oppressive, and then I was, you know, disappointed or filled with anger.

“Well, fortunately, I happened to meet Fujiko Nayaka, who had just founded Video Hiroba, a group of mostly established artists in various fields, and she said, ‘oh, you know, just start making one, you could do it!’ Very encouraging, and that's how I started. But why I made this short film was, I thought at that time, most Japanese women wish to get married only because that was the only way to survive.

“I made this to describe how these are the only two opportunities for women to become sort of the stars for a moment, you know, drawing people's attention and congratulations. I mean dolled up and wearing beautiful things, and then holding a baby -- the first baby, and not so much after the second baby! So, I took these two highlights
to express that this is how women find the greatest joy, and to ask, ‘Is that enough?’

“It was full of my anger, and also my sincere and heartfelt love toward women in Japan.”
