Roz Owen
Partners in life and work, Roz Owen and Jim Miller set up Anti-Amnesiac Productions in 2006 with the aim of creating memorable socially engaged media. Roz is director and Jim is the editor. They both write and produce. In 2008 their short documentary Community Matters won the OAAG Visual Art Film Award. Their feature documentary Portrait of Resistance: The Art and Activism of Carole Condé & Karl Beveridge is about another couple who live and make work together. Portrait of Resistance premiered at the Planet in Focus Film Festival in Toronto on October 13th, 2011.
In 2006, Roz received the Kodak New Vision Award for her feature script Close Before Striking. All three of her dramatic scripts have been optioned. You Love Me I Hate You received both Genie and Golden Sheath nominations for best short drama. The world premiere was at The Locarno International Festival in Switzerland and its Canadian premiere at TIFF followed by numerous international festivals and broadcast licenses. A Love of Contradiction, her first half hour drama, also premiered at TIFF.
Jim has been creating socially engaged documentary work in a variety of media for over twenty years. In the 1980s and '90s his documentary art installations toured nationally and internationally. In the late 1990s, Jim and Roz initiated the Harrisees project – wrapping fact in satire as they chronicled Ontario's "Common Sense Revolution." In 2005, Jim’s new-media collaboration with David Hartman, Global Kitchens, was awarded the OMDC Platform Award. More recently, Jim curated “Extended Vision,” a five-decade survey exhibition of work by painter and muralist York Wilson that was on view at Toronto's SONY Centre through 2011-12.
