Michael Greyeyes
Michael Greyeyes is an actor and choreographer of Plains Cree from Saskatchewan. He has drawn from his training as a Corps de Ballet member of the National Ballet of Canada , as a soloist with Feld Ballet in New York and as a student of traditional Pow Wow dancing with Boye Ladd to create dance works fusing these two traditions. Tipiskaki Goroh, a dance company Michael formed with Floyd Favel mounted two productions, Night Traveller and Child of Ten Thousand Years at the Canada Dance Festival in 1994. Michael also choreographed productions of Tomson Highway's The Rez Sisters, the award winning video project A Nation Is Coming and How A Promise Made the Buffalo Dance for the Assitej International Children's Theatre Festival in Tromso, Norway.
Michael's acting career has included featured roles in such films as Dance Me Outside, Geronimo, Stolen Women, Captured Hearts, Smoke Signals, Big Bear, Shipped Parts and the title role in Crazy Horse, for which he won a Best Actor Award for First Americans in the Arts. Michael was featured in a documentary for the CBC entitled He Who Dreams: Michael Greyeyes on the Pow Wow Trail, that followed him on a journey into the ancient traditions of Native Dance.
