W. Mark Sutherland

W. Mark Sutherland is a language based artist, poet and musician. He is a member of SOCAN (The Society of Composers, Authors, and Music Publishers of Canada) and the League of Canadian Poets. His texts, poetry, visual constructions, book reviews and critical articles have been published in numerous international journals and magazines including NEXT (Italy), Espace, Harbour, The Jazz Report, Musicworks, Paragraph, Rampike, Lightworks, Poetry Canada Review and Queen's Quarterly. Sutherland's poetry tapes, music and soundscapes have received air play throughout North America and Europe. His work is also included on audio anthology Modern Sounds by The CAGE Group (Cincinnati) and Boabab - The New Worlds (Cento, Italy). He has several solo gallery exhibitions to his credit as well as participating in group shows in Canada, U.S.A., Ireland and Italy. Sutherland's objects, texts, videos and audio - visual installations investigate the conflicting principles of authority in language, images and sound.
