Advanced Search Hints
An implied “and” condition exists between fields. This means, for example, that if you enter an artist’s name in the Artist Name field, and specify that you are looking for work by Indigenous artists (by checking the Indigenous box under the “Artist” heading), you will receive results only for those records in which the name matches AND the artist has been identified as Indigenous in our database. When using the Advanced Search, try not to make your criteria too narrow by checking too many boxes, unless you are searching for something very specific; the more fields, the fewer results.
If you’re doing a more exploratory search, start by selecting one Genre, Subject, or Keyword, and see where it leads you. You can always refine your search at a later stage.
