Inspired by my love of Dada artist Kurt Schwitters' collages of urban detritus, Gesicht ("face" in German) began with sound. His "Ursonate" explored the absurd beauty of his voice, a montage of vocal tics and gibberish. Gesicht pairs these human sounds with shots of skeletons in a Museum of Natural History. These well-preserved specimens of our ancestors seem to stare back at the Sunday afternoon crowds. Glimpses of my face deformed by magazine clippings complete this fractured self-portrait.
