In an undisclosed Republic, where the index of freedom is 222% and people's satisfaction with the government is 458%, a misguided people nonetheless are protesting in the streets. An apathetic Citizen lounges at home watching TV, oblivious to the growing chants outside his window. In the meantime, a Mullah sits among naked mistresses in his harem. Disturbed by the protest's developments, he repeatedly phones a prison Guard and orders him to escalate the brutal torture methods on the captured protesters. Expressed through a collage of cropped video images that unify to create three alternating cubist video canvases, Republic of God is a satirical portrayal of the relationship between ruler and subject in a day of political turmoil set in a fictitious nation.
