The term 'domestic violence' allows for a loophole in the justice system where partners - mostly men beat and murder women, and then get off with only light punishment. That loophole was a glaring injustice to filmmaker Janis Cole when her friend Cathy Bowie was killed by her husband while she was in the midst of leaving him.
In Cole's short but powerful tribute to her friend, she shows how Bowie went from being a young, vibrant woman to a mere statistic of women killed by partners.
