The Plague Doctor and Happy Face wait patiently for the appearance of God to revitalize a clear cut in rural Nova Scotia. They may be waiting a long time, as it takes about a century for a second growth forest to reach maturity.
Tanya Mars (Middle Ohio, Nova Scotia) and Stein Henningsen (Svalbard, Norway) shot these two short allegorical performances for camera in 2022, in the middle of the pandemic, in the middle of nowhere. The settings are in Shelburne County, Nova Scotia. The artists acknowledge the oblique reference to Beckett’s Waiting for Godot. Camera: Alex Balkam and Yalitsa Riden.
