What starts out as a short nature documentary inspired by the mating sounds of male wood frogs in a southern Ontario forest, slowly reveals itself to touch on the fragility of life, the cycle of the seasons, the wonder of the natural world, and, in an echo of the Ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus’ maxim that you can’t step in the same river twice, an epiphany about the passage of time and its paradoxical relationship to the filmmaker’s art.
