Dinner

1984, 18:00 minutes, colour, English

TAPECODE 9999.042

Dinner is an experimental documentary using a family event as its focus. Framed in snap-shot style the video seems to arbitrarily "crop off" the participants, saving their anonymity. The tape allows the viewer to concentrate on details of impromptu etiquette and casual conversation around the table until, in the end, as at any family event the camera is brought out to take pictures. On the cue..."Okay, smile", the photographs taken are tossed one by one into the video frame. At last the dinner participants are captured on fuzzy polaroids.
