Homecoming '92: Conference Overview

1993, 48:00 minutes

TAPECODE 3084.02

During the Thanksgiving weekend of 1992, 750 Nikkei from Canada, the US, Europe and Japan gathered in Vancouver to mark the fifty years that had passed since the Japanese Canadian uprooting and dispersal from British Columbia. The conference was more that just an anniversary. Oral histories and comments from the floor reveal the ongoing struggle of a diverse community to work through the political challenges of racism much older than fifty years and the long-term effects resulting from enforced assimilation into mainstream society. This video records moments in the process of this discussion, not yet over.
