National Native Indian Artists Symposium

1983, 59:00 minutes, colour, English

TAPECODE 3086.02

This program documents the gathering of Indian artists from across Canada at the National Native Indian Artists' Symposium in Hazelton B.C. in August, 1983. Coverage includes highlights of the proceedings, workshops and special events as well as spontaneous "art happenings" created by delegates. While celebrating differences of personal style and tribal art traditions among attending artists, the program also focuses on areas of common concern. Questions regarding authenticity and the lack of recognition of Indian art and artists by national institutions emerge as major issues.
