The formulaic language of the pulp romance is taken up here as reinforcement of the cultural preparation of women. We are given a virginal bride, consumed by the goal of bliss, labouring to construct her proper appearance for the camera/viewer/husband. Her accompaniment is a crushing litany of marriage proposals, empty promises, and lovesick tunes.
