"At one time, the idea of ordinary people making their own television programs was as far-out as going to the moon." Everyone's Channel documents the history of cable access from its technical, economic, political and philosophical roots, including early NYC cable negotiations and Canada's Challenge for Change, to recent challenges relating to FCC deregulation and the Communications Policy Act of 1984, cutbacks by cable companies, and the censorship/free speech debates instigated by the Klu Klux Klan program, Race and Reason. With a wide variety of program examples from across the country, Everyone's Channel demonstrates cable access's continuing potential and growth as alternative television.
