Doctor As Artist, Artist As Quack is a videotape appropriating and subverting the "objective" documentary genre to "diagnose" social disease brought on by technological innovation. This disease is presented metaphorically as a medically classified illness (Techno Identity Psycho Immune Syndrome) with real and imagined physical symptoms. The work uses a sideoscope, an internal fiberoptic video imaging tool, and the artist's body. Disclosed within the context of female spectatorship, scopophilia, hysteria, therapy, fetishization, representation and objectification, Doctor As Artist, Artist As Quack, intimates a type of implosive cultural condition traced through identity, artistry, technology, language and medicine.
