Elemental: Being There

"Shortly after my husband and I broke up, after a 14 year relationship, I was driving around one day musing on what it means to be there in relationships - with a husband, a lover, with my family. I had the camcorder in the car which I turned on... and so began this tape. I had another tape of footage of the kids on my Brooklyn street playing at night, the girls playing their clapping games, the boys interrupting them with guns pointed at their heads asking 'Want me to kill you?'

The resulting video is about patterns, visual, aesthetic and behavioural - the patterns of children's games, (echoed in the repetitive urban jazz music of Ben Neill), of conditioned male/female relating that beginning from such an early age and of the rhythmic cycling patterns of light as I drive across New York's bridges and through its tunnels.

Elemental: Being There is a multi-layered short narrative about the subtleties of repetition and the possibility for transformation."
