Before Naming

1995, 02:00 minutes, colour, English

TAPECODE 10145

Adult fears resonate with the memory of the infant's terror of abandonment. By descending into fear, it is possible to discover the comfort of the Mother's song, and to accept the joy of the rhythm of life. The visual images were recorded at Cape Spear, Newfoundland, a World War II military installation, and the most easterly point in North America. The music came from listening to my own infant memory-voice. Before Naming is meant as a non-verbal experience, to be understood through feeling, not through thinking.
