Neonudism was conceived as a commentary on Net-based amateur sex activity. Full-screen digital movies and live CuSeeMe two way video sessions are projected for an audience during the performance of the work. The movies show three personae (all played by Christine Martin), who are toying with the idea of getting involved in such online activity. They are mostly speaking to themselves in voices that are sometimes theoretical, although rather mockingly so, and sometimes are very personal. A connection is made periodically to CuSeeMe online reflector sites, where people engage in various forms of interaction that range from chatting to displays of nudity. The videotape shows excerpts from the second night of a trial presentation of Neonudism at Interaccess in Toronto, 1997. On this particular night the performance evolved into a lengthy display by a certain Mr. X, who discovered our quick cam image on one of the public reflectors we visited during the show. The original conception of Neonudism is by Nell Tenhaaf and Eliot Handelman.
A forty-five minute version is also available.
