Evidence of Departure

Susan MacKay

2001, 04:20 minutes, colour, English

Evidence of departure, is a cinema verité portrait of the directors‚ daughter.
Synchronistic coincidences unfold. The time frame is interrupted by a preeminence of memory. We are witness to a record of an intimate loving relationship. Impelled by the pain of loss in the letting go of a beloved, the question of how to detach becomes a harsh and tender human task. Personal survival ironically depending on the withdrawal of emotion and its‚ transcendence through the generous aspect of unconditional love. An image of the temporal nature of impermanence and ultimately a political statement as the realm of the gaze focuses further into the the private.
