Within These Cages

Toronto cultural activist Faith Nolan takes us into San Francisco County Jail where she sings with a group of women. Through songs sung by inmates, we see how music is both a cultural and emotional expression that provides a form of survival for these women. Music also links women both inside and outside the prison. Critical Resistance organizer, Julia Sudbury reveals the unjust criminalization of women and the harsh realities for inmates. Critical Resistance (started by activist and writer Angela Davis) is building an international movement to abolish the prison industrial complex.
