Graffix

1989, 13:00 minutes, colour, Portugese/English

TAPECODE 9487

Graffix follows the movement of Brazilian art from beyond the confines of accepted exhibition spaces, such as art galleries, into the streets. Numerous artists living in Sao Paulo, Brazil's largest industrial city, have taken it upon themselves to combat the stifling greyness of their surroundings through the art of graffitti. With spray can in hand, they are working to create a viable living space. Graffix shows not only their work, but the political dimensions of a struggle to oppose the inhumanity of their urban environment.
