Sidet: Forced Exile

1991, 60:00 minutes

TAPECODE 9508

"I just wanted to reach anyplace... anyplace my legs would take me... I went in search of peace."
In the wake of war and famine over 2 million citizens of Ethiopia, Somalia and Sudan have fled their homes, and almost one-third of them end up as refugees living in camps in the Sudan.
Made by an Ethiopian woman, Sidet is the story of three refugee women who have managed to survive displacement and are striving to make a life for themselves and their families in exile.
Sidet is a thoughtful and sensitive look at women's struggle in the horn of Africa - finding jobs, protecting their children's health, and making the most of meagre resources are all part of women's lives.
Excellent for global education in highschools, and groups dealing with settlement issues.
