Dance activists Paige Gratland and Day Milman hit the streets to take the chance and ask the world to dance.

Free Dance Lessons is a performance-based public intervention that attempts to actualize positive spontaneous engagement between people in the city. A stereo blares music on the street, passers-by are invited to dance with us, take a lesson, or give one. Free Dance Lessons offers an unexpected opportunity to break out in the course of the everyday. Our playful activity points to the street as a place of constant performance and challenges the public to engage with us in non-commodified exchange. Free Dance Lessons was invented in response to our experience of the city as a place of alienation: citizens alienated from each other and from their bodies.
