5 x 90: the wake

Samuel Kiehoon Lee

2005, 10:45 minutes, colour, Korean/English

Five different stories comprise a single ninety second vignette; each tale illuminating an element of the deceased's life during his wake. A meditation on the Buddhist notion of reincarnation, "5x90: the wake" is a sly and clever look at an interracial family coping with a death in the family. Through its hyper-self-reflexive text, this film endeavours to achieve cinematic Nirvana. (P.S. Watch out for Waldo.)
