Me and I

Khrystell Burlin

2002, 16:30 minutes, colour/B&W, English

We ask to be left alone, always more alone, and at the same time, we can't stand ourselves once we are alone with ourselves. Here, the desert no longer has a beginning nor an end.
(Gilles Lipovetsky, l'ere du vide, essais sur l'individualisme contemporain.)

Me and I is a video work that can be played as a single channel or as a 3 screen video installation. The piece is entirely constructed on the idea of point-of-view and is composed of three distinct parts that play constantly on antagonism: figuration v. abstraction, color v. black/white, and finally objectivity vs.subjectivity.
