On June 16, 1963 at 09:30 gmt, the Russian spacecraft Vostok 6 was launched with cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova aboard. The 26-year old former factory worker became “the First Woman in Space.” My one-minute video, COMRADE VALENTINA, uses rare televised footage of Tereshkova to encapsulate this once heroic, and now somewhat quaint moment in history.
